- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
- 3 ounces tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons white sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Heat a generous amount of oil in a large, deep cooking vessel over medium heat. Next, add a sliced and chopped onion to the pot and cook until it becomes translucent and soft, taking approximately 5 minutes.

Subsequently, add minced garlic to the pot and cook while stirring constantly until it releases its fragrance without browning, which should take around 2 minutes.

Following that, add a variety of ingredients including tomatoes, wine, water, chopped basil, tomato paste, sugar, pepper flakes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the pot. Cover the vessel, bring the mixture to a gentle boil, and cook while stirring occasionally for 45 minutes.

Once cooked, remove the pot from the heat source. Then, use an immersion blender to puree the soup until it reaches a smooth consistency, or blend it in batches using a separate blender.

Return the pot to the heat source and stir in grated Parmesan cheese until it is heated through, taking an additional 3 minutes. Finally, serve the soup immediately.
