Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups uncooked wild rice
- 3 cups boiling water
- 1 cup uncooked brown rice
- 1 cup diced onion
- 1 cup diced carrots
- 3/4 cup diced celery
- 3 (14.5 ounce) cans chicken broth
- 1/2 teaspoon ground thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
1
Start by submerging the wild rice in a large quantity of boiling water within a heavy saucepan for 30 minutes.
2
Subsequently, drain the wild rice and give it a thorough wash to remove any excess water.
3
Next, place the drained wild rice in a substantial cooking vessel or Dutch oven alongside some brown rice, finely chopped onion, carrots, and celery.
4
Add a generous amount of chicken broth, along with some dried thyme and marjoram leaves, salt, and black pepper to the mixture.
5
Immediately bring the entire combination to a rolling boil over high heat, stirring occasionally.
6
Once boiling has been achieved, gradually decrease the heat to a low setting and let the mixture simmer, covered, until both the rice is tender and has absorbed all the liquid, taking around 50 to 60 minutes.
