Wayne's Taco Casserole
Ingredients
  • 1 (16.3 ounce) can refrigerated biscuits
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 (1 ounce) package taco seasoning
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 medium onion, halved and sliced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, halved and sliced (1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 8 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 (4 ounce) jar sliced jalapeno peppers, drained
Instructions
1
Acquire all necessary components for the dish before commencing preparation.
2
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) and lightly coat a 9x13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
3
Place the biscuit dough into the prepared baking pan and press it firmly onto the bottom surface, as well as halfway up the sides of the pan.
4
Bake the dough in the preheated oven until it reaches a light brown color, taking approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
5
Leave the oven in its current state.
6
Concurrently, heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and cook ground beef until it reaches a browned, crumbly texture, about 5 minutes. Drain excess fat from the skillet.
7
Stir in taco seasoning and water to create a flavorful mixture, then bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes.
8
Transfer the cooked ground beef to a separate bowl and wipe out the non-stick skillet.
9
Add onion and bell peppers to the same skillet and cook over medium heat until they are slightly tender, about 5 minutes.
10
Combine sour cream, mayonnaise, half of the Cheddar cheese, and half of the onion-pepper mixture in a bowl.
11
Layer browned ground beef, tomatoes, onion-pepper mixture, jalapeño peppers, and sour cream mixture on top of the pre-baked biscuit dough. Sprinkle with the remaining Cheddar cheese.
12
Bake the dish uncovered in the preheated oven until the cheese is lightly browned and bubbly, taking approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
