Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon finely chopped crystallized ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons finely chopped crystallized ginger
- 8 cups peeled and sliced pears
- 1 pint vanilla ice cream
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 375 degrees F (or 190 degrees C).
2
Next, take a 2-quart casserole dish or a 9-inch square baking dish and lightly coat it with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
3
To make the topping mixture, combine rolled oats, brown sugar, 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, a pinch of ground crystallized ginger, and a sprinkle of cinnamon in a medium-sized bowl. Use your fingers or a pastry blender to work the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs with small clumps.
4
Set this crumbly mixture aside for the time being.
5
In a separate bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, and another pinch of ground crystallized ginger. Add sliced pears to the bowl and gently toss everything together until they're evenly coated.
6
Transfer this pear mixture into your prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the crumbly topping mixture evenly over the pears.
7
Bake the dish in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the pears are tender and the topping is golden brown.
8
Once done, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
