Vietnamese Noodle Bowl
Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced, or more to taste
  • 2 teaspoons Chinese five-spice powder
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules
  • 1 1/2 pounds pork tenderloin, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 pounds fresh thick Vietnamese-style rice noodles
  • 2 cups bean sprouts
  • 1 cup torn lettuce leaves
  • 1 bunch green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1/4 cup crispy chow mein noodles, or more to taste
Instructions
1
Combine the ingredients of soy sauce, garlic, five-spice powder, sugar, paprika, and bouillon granules in a large glass or ceramic container. Add the pork and mix until it is evenly coated with the marinade. Cover the container with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
2
Next, remove the pork from the marinade and gently shake off any excess. Discard the remaining marinade, as it is no longer needed.
3
Heat a generous amount of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Cook and stir the pork in hot oil until it is nicely browned, taking around 4 to 7 minutes. Add water to the pan and continue cooking until the water has evaporated, leaving just the pork, which should take about 2 minutes more.
4
Subsequently, bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil. Rinse the rice noodles under cold running water and gently break them apart with your fingers to release any tangles. Then, immerse the noodles in boiling water until they are about half-tender, taking around 30 seconds. Add the bean sprouts to the water and noodles, then continue cooking until the noodles are tender yet still retain some firmness when bitten into, taking an additional 30 seconds.
5
Finally, drain the cooked noodles and combine them with the pork mixture in a large serving dish. Top this dish off with lettuce, green onions, basil, cilantro, and chow mein for a delicious meal.
