Vietnamese Grilled Beef Skewers
Ingredients
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 stalks lemon grass, minced
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
  • 1 1/2 pounds sirloin tip, thinly sliced
  • skewers
  • 12 leaves romaine lettuce
  • fresh cilantro for garnish
  • fresh basil for garnish
  • fresh mint for garnish
  • thinly sliced green onion for garnish
Instructions
1
Combine the sugar, soy sauce, black pepper, minced garlic, lemongrass, and sesame seeds in a medium-sized bowl.
2
Place the meat within the dish and gently stir to ensure it is evenly coated with the mixture. Cover the bowl, then refrigerate for a period of 4 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
3
Heat the grill to its highest temperature setting. Discard any remaining marinade, and thread the meat onto skewers in a zig-zag pattern.
4
Brush the grill surface with oil to prevent sticking, and discard any remaining marinade. Arrange the skewers on the grill in a single layer.
5
Cook for 5 minutes per side, or until the meat is cooked to your desired level of doneness. Serve immediately from the skewers, or remove them and place on lettuce leaves for a visually appealing presentation. Garnish with chopped cilantro, mint, basil, and sliced green onions for added flavor and color.
