Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 tablespoons milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons red food coloring
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips, or as needed
Instructions
1
Combine dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Mix until well incorporated.
2
Next, prepare the butter mixture: using an electric mixer, beat butter until it reaches a light and airy consistency, approximately 2 minutes. Then, incorporate brown sugar and white sugar into the butter mixture until it's smooth and well combined, taking about 1 minute.
3
Add egg, milk, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and continue beating until it's fully incorporated. At this stage, also add food coloring to achieve the desired color.
4
Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the butter mixture using an electric mixer on low speed, ensuring they're well combined. Finally, add 1 cup of chocolate chips and mix until they're evenly distributed throughout the dough.
5
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, place it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or up to overnight to allow the flavors to meld together.
6
Before baking, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line your baking sheets with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
7
Form the dough into 2-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets. Gently flatten each ball slightly to create a cookie shape.
8
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until their edges are lightly browned. Remove the cookies from the oven and sprinkle a few additional chocolate chips on top.
9
Allow the cookies to cool completely before serving.
