Vegan Brownies
Ingredients
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
1
Collect all the necessary ingredients and materials beforehand.
2
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or 175 degrees Celsius). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with some cooking spray to prevent sticking.
3
Combine water and one-third cup of flour in a heavy saucepan placed over medium heat. Stir constantly with a spoon as the mixture thickens; this should take about 10-15 minutes. Transfer the cooked mixture to a large mixing bowl and let it sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
4
Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Gradually add cocoa powder until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps; then, remove it from the heat source. Allow the cocoa mixture to cool down for about 15 minutes.
5
In a separate bowl, whisk together the remaining two cups of flour, baking powder, and salt. Set this mixture aside for a few minutes until you're ready to incorporate it into the rest of the recipe. Add sugar and vanilla extract to the cooled flour-water mixture, then use an electric mixer to blend the ingredients until they're well combined.
6
Add the cooled cocoa mixture to the flour-water mixture and mix until everything is fully incorporated. Gradually add the dry flour mixture, stirring only until it's just combined; then, fold in some chopped walnuts.
7
Spread the batter evenly across the prepared baking pan.
8
Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove it from the oven and let it cool down before cutting it into 20 squares.
