  • 1 pound mild Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 2 (24 ounce) jars marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil, divided
  • 12 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning, divided
  • 1 dash salt and pepper
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded

Preheat your oven to the optimal temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Fill a large container with water and add a pinch of salt, then bring it to a rolling boil.

Introduce pasta into the boiling water and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness. Remove the pasta from the water and set it aside.

Place a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat and add sliced sausage. Cook the sausage until it's evenly browned, then remove it from the skillet and crumble it into smaller pieces.

Layer half of the cooked ziti pasta, followed by half of the crumbled sausage, half of the ricotta cheese mixture, and half of the shredded mozzarella.

Spoon half of the warmed marinara sauce over the top layer, then repeat the layers in reverse order.
