Ultimate Meatloaf
Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 pounds extra-lean ground beef
  • 3 slices bread, toasted and crumbled
  • 7 buttery round crackers, crushed
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce, divided
  • 1/4 cup milk, or as needed
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or 175 degrees Celsius), making sure it's ready for the next step.
2
Gather all necessary ingredients and have them at hand.
3
In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Then, cook the sliced onion and minced garlic until they become soft and translucent, taking around 5 minutes to achieve this.
4
Remove the skillet from heat once the onion is cooked, and add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
5
In a large bowl, combine the cooked onion and garlic mixture with the ground beef, crushed bread, crushed crackers, beaten egg, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, and 1/2 can of tomato sauce. Mix everything together until it's well combined.
6
Gradually add milk to the mixture, one teaspoon at a time, until you achieve the right consistency - moist but not soggy.
7
Transfer the mixture to a 5x9-inch loaf pan, making sure it's evenly distributed.
8
Bake the mixture uncovered in your preheated oven for 40 minutes.
9
Increase the oven temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (or 200 degrees Celsius), and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit (or 70 degrees Celsius).
10
Mix the remaining tomato sauce and ketchup in a small bowl.
11
Pour this mixture over the top of the meatloaf, and continue baking for another 10 minutes.
12
Serve your delicious meatloaf hot, and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
