Ingredients
- 6 large Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and chopped
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup custard powder
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/3 cup shredded coconut
- 1/3 cup rolled oats
Instructions
1
Begin by submerging apples in a substantial amount of water, sufficient to cover them completely. Next, bring the mixture to a rolling boil before gradually decreasing the heat to a low simmer for 15 minutes, or until they become tender. Remove from heat and let cool.
2
Subsequently, place the cooled apples in a large container and evenly distribute 2 tablespoons of sugar over them.
3
In another bowl, combine the 1/2 cup butter and 2 tablespoons sugar using a whipping motion until light and airy. Then, incorporate the egg into this mixture.
4
Separately, combine 2 cups of flour, baking powder, and custard powder in a third bowl. Once this dry mixture is well-blended, merge it with the butter and sugar mixture.
5
Press the resulting dough into the bottom and sides of a 9-inch springform pan to create a crust.
6
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius), as specified in the original recipe.
7
Drain the apples and place them into the crust. In a separate bowl, combine 3/4 cup sugar, 3/4 cup butter, 1 1/4 cups flour, and cinnamon. Mix well to create a uniform blend.
8
Add the coconut and oats to this mixture and sprinkle it evenly over the apples.
9
Place the apple mixture in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until it reaches a golden brown color. Remove the sides from the pan and allow the crumble to cool before serving.
