  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup wheat and barley nugget cereal (such as Grape-NutsĀ®)
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon water

Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit (or 190 degrees Celsius, if you prefer metric measurements).

Next, take a few minutes to prepare the apples by sprinkling some lemon juice over them. This will help prevent them from turning brown, which can happen when they come into contact with oxygen in the air.

In a separate bowl, combine 2 main ingredients: flour and rolled oats. Then add some cereal nuggets, 1/2 cup of melted butter, 1/4 cup of white sugar, and 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Mix everything together and set it aside for now.

Take the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and place them in a large skillet over medium heat. Once it's warm, stir in the remaining 1/3 cup of white sugar and 1/3 cup of brown sugar. Keep stirring until the sugars start to dissolve, which should take around 3-4 minutes.

Add the sliced apples and some water to the skillet, then cook and stir until they're soft and coated in a sweet sauce. This should take around 4-5 minutes.

Now, pour the apple mixture into a 2-quart baking dish and sprinkle the cereal nugget topping evenly over the top.
