Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon tahini
- 1 1/2 cups boiling water
- 2 teaspoons whole anise seeds
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/4 teaspoons anise seed powder
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons pine nuts
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a medium-high temperature of 325 degrees Fahrenheit (or 165 degrees Celsius, if you prefer).
2
Next, take a 9x13-inch baking dish and apply a thin layer of tahini to prevent the cake from sticking.
3
In a separate container, combine boiling water with anise seeds and allow them to infuse for approximately 5 minutes. Strain the mixture into a separate bowl, discarding the anise seeds in the process.
4
Then, add granulated sugar to the bowl and stir until it dissolves completely.
5
In a separate mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, turmeric, baking powder, and anise seed powder. Create a small indentation in the center of the mixture; gradually add oil and melted butter, mixing until well combined.
6
Add sweetened anise water to the mixture and stir until you achieve a consistency similar to that of thick yogurt.
7
Pour the cake batter into your prepared baking dish, making sure to cover the entire surface.
8
To create a decorative pattern on top of the cake, use the tip of a knife to make diamond-shaped cuts in the batter.
9
Finally, place one pine nut at the center of each diamond shape and bake in your preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes, or until the top of the cake is lightly browned.
