Tuna Mac and Cheese Casserole
Ingredients
  • nonstick cooking spray
  • 1 (7.25 ounce) package macaroni and cheese dinner mix (such as Kraft®)
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1 (15 ounce) can sweet peas, drained
  • 1 (5 ounce) can chunk light tuna, drained and flaked
  • 1 cup shredded mild Cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/3 cups French-fried onions
Instructions
1
Firstly, preheat your oven to a high temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or 175 degrees Celsius). Next, lightly coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray to prevent food from sticking.
2
Then, fill a medium-sized saucepan with 6 cups of water and bring it to a rolling boil. Add the contents of a macaroni box and cook according to the package instructions for 7 minutes. Once cooked, drain the macaroni thoroughly and rinse it under cold running water to stop the cooking process. Set the cheese sauce packet aside for now.
3
In the same saucepan, melt a small amount of butter over medium heat. Then, add milk and the contents of the cheese sauce packet; mix everything together until well combined. Stir in a can of condensed soup and continue cooking until the mixture is heated through, approximately 3 minutes.
4
In a separate bowl, combine the cooked macaroni, frozen peas, and canned tuna. Fold in the cheesy soup mixture to create a delicious casserole.
5
Finally, pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into the prepared baking dish. Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until hot and bubbly. Sprinkle shredded Cheddar cheese over the top of the dish, followed by a layer of French-fried onions. Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
