Traditional Tiramisu
Ingredients
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 1/4 cups white sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups mascarpone cheese
  • 1 3/4 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 2 (12 ounce) packages ladyfingers
  • 1/3 cup coffee flavored liqueur
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
  • 1 (1 ounce) square semisweet chocolate
Instructions
1
Combine egg yolks with granulated sugar in the upper portion of a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water. Gradually decrease the heat to a low setting and cook for approximately 10 minutes, stirring constantly with a spoon.
2
Remove the bowl from the heat source and use an electric mixer to beat the egg yolks until they become thick, pale yellow in color, and doubled in volume.
3
Add the mascarpone cheese to the beaten egg yolks and mix until they are fully incorporated.
4
In a separate container, use an electric mixer to whip the heavy cream until it reaches stiff peaks.
5
Gently fold the whipped cream into the yolk mixture, taking care not to deflate it. Set the mixture aside.
6
Cut the ladyfingers in half lengthwise and line the bottom and sides of a large glass serving dish with them. Brush the ladyfingers with coffee liqueur, making sure to get both sides evenly coated.
7
Spoon half of the cream filling over the ladyfingers, followed by a layer of coffee liqueur. Repeat this process one more time, ending with a layer of cream filling on top.
8
Garnish the top of the dessert with shaved chocolate and cocoa powder, adding a decorative touch to the finished product.
9
Refrigerate the dessert for several hours or overnight, allowing it to set and chill completely.
