Traditional Swedish Meatballs
Ingredients
  • 1 1/3 cups heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 8 teaspoons potato flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons finely chopped onion
  • 1 pound 85% lean ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons ground allspice
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to a high temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
2
Mix together cream, oats, potato flour, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Allow the mixture to rest for 10 minutes at room temperature, enabling the oats to absorb the liquid and achieving a mashed potato-like consistency.
3
Melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Cook the onion until it becomes soft and still has a hint of its original color, taking around 3 to 4 minutes. Combine the cooked onion with the oat mixture and add ground beef along with allspice; just stir until they are well combined, approximately 30 to 45 seconds.
4
Use your hands and shape the mixture into meatballs of a size smaller than that of a golf ball. Ideally, these should be around 1 inch in diameter. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet.
5
Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven until they are hot and cooked through, taking about 10 minutes. Let them cool for a short period.
6
Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat and add some oil. Cook the meatballs, taking them out one at a time, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through, approximately 3 to 5 minutes.
