Traditional Swedish Glogg
Ingredients
  • 2 cups water
  • 12 cardamom seeds
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 1/2 orange, zested
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup blanched almonds
  • 4 cups Muscatel wine, or orange Muscat
  • 4 cups port wine (or Burgundy)
  • 2 cups brandy
Instructions
1
Boil water vigorously in a large pot with ground cardamom, sliced cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and grated orange peel; add granulated sugar gradually until it fully dissolves.
2
Remove the pot from heat and let the mixture infuse for an extended period of 8 hours or overnight, allowing its flavors to meld together seamlessly.
3
Combine plump raisins and sliced almonds in a substantial saucepan; pour the sugar-infused water over them, followed by a generous amount of Muscatel wine, port, and brandy.
4
Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and cook until the liquid reaches a hot but not boiling point, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
5
Serve the warm spiced wine mixture in individual mugs, garnished with an assortment of fruits and additional sliced almonds for each serving.
