Ingredients
- 6 1/4 cups cubed whole wheat bread
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/3 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup dried mixed fruit
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to its highest temperature setting, indicated by 375 degrees F on a standard thermometer or 190 degrees C on a metric one.
2
In a spacious container, merge bread and milk, allowing them to mingle for 5 minutes before proceeding. Next, incorporate an egg into the mixture, followed by a pat of butter, some raisins, a medley of fruits, a spoonful of brown sugar, a pinch of nutmeg, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Ensure all the ingredients are harmoniously combined.
3
Press the resulting mixture into a 9-inch square baking pan, taking care to fill it evenly. Then, subject the mixture to the preheated oven for approximately 35 minutes, or until it has turned a golden hue and feels firm to the touch.
4
Once done, permit the baked goods to remain in the baking pan until they have cooled completely. Subsequently, cut them into neat squares for serving.
