Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups semolina flour
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons flaked coconut
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 6 whole almonds, split in half
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 3/4 cups white sugar
- 2 tablespoons rose water
Instructions
1
Combine semolina flour, 1/2 cup sugar, yogurt, oil, shredded coconut, and baking powder in a medium-sized bowl. Allow the mixture to rest for 30 minutes.
2
In a small saucepan, heat water over medium-high heat and combine it with 1 3/4 cups sugar and rosewater. Bring the mixture to a boil, then continue boiling for 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.
3
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Pour the semolina mixture into a 9x13 inch baking pan and spread it evenly across the bottom. Cut the semolina mixture into desired shapes, such as squares or diamonds, and place an almond half on top of each piece.
4
Bake the semolina mixture in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until it reaches a light brown color. Switch your oven to the broil setting and continue baking for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Remove from the oven and pour the cooled syrup over the semolina squares. Serve warm.
