- 10 tomatillos, husked and rinsed
- 8 serrano chile peppers, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
- 2 tablespoons salt, or to taste

Combine the tomatillos, serrano peppers, onion, and garlic in a saucepan, filling it with just enough water to cover the ingredients. Sprinkle salt liberally over the top of the vegetables, then bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Once boiling, decrease the heat to a low-medium temperature and let it simmer for 20-30 minutes or until the tomatillos have become tender and developed a slightly caramelized hue. If necessary, replenish the water level to prevent the mixture from scorching as it cooks.

Transfer the cooked vegetables into a blender and puree until you achieve your desired consistency.
