Ingredients
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 large onion, diced
- 1 large bell pepper, minced
- 3 (15 ounce) cans pinto beans
- 2 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
- 4 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup chili powder
- 3 jalapeno peppers, minced
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
1
Sear the beef, along with the onion and bell pepper in a large cooking vessel over a moderate heat setting until the beef is nicely browned and the onion and pepper have become soft, taking around 10 minutes. Remove excess fat from the pot.
2
Combine the beef, onion, and bell pepper with the beans, tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, jalapeƱos, red pepper flakes, black pepper, salt, and garlic powder in the pot. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then cover it with a lid and lower the heat level. Let it cook slowly for at least 30 minutes or up to several hours; the longer it cooks, the more complex and flavorful the dish will become.
