Taco Layered Bake
Ingredients
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 2 (1.25 ounce) packages taco seasoning mix
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup water
  • cooking spray
  • 18 (6 inch) corn tortillas
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar salsa
  • 1 cup sliced green onion
  • 1 (16 ounce) container sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
Instructions
1
Begin by adding ground beef to a substantial, deep skillet and cook over a moderate-high heat setting until it is uniformly browned; discard the excess fat. Add taco seasoning, garlic, chili powder, and cayenne pepper to enhance the flavor of the beef. Stir in water, lower the heat to a low setting, and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
2
Concurrently, preheat your oven to a moderate temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Grease the base of a rectangular baking dish measuring 9x13 inches.
3
Place six tortillas in the prepared baking dish. Spread one-third of the salsa over the top of the tortillas. Distribute half of the meat mixture evenly over the salsa layer. Sprinkle with half of the green onions and randomly drop half of the sour cream over the top of the green onions. Cover with half a cup of Cheddar and half a cup of Monterey Jack cheese. Repeat the layering process by adding another layer of tortillas, spreading the remaining salsa over them, and sprinkling with the remaining cheese.
4
Bake in the preheated oven until it reaches a golden brown color on top and the cheese is melted throughout all layers, taking between 30 to 45 minutes.
