- 1 1/4 cups caffeinated pepper-type soda (such as Dr PepperĀ®)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chiles
- 2/3 cup salsa verde
- 1 habanero pepper, diced
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
1
Place the pork shoulder in a slow cooker with the fat side facing upwards.
2
Cover it with a mixture of soda, garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 0.25 teaspoons of pepper.
3
Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or until the meat is tender and falls apart easily with a fork.
4
Remove any bones and solid hunks of fat from the pork, then discard them.
5
Shred the meat using two forks and stir it into its own juices.
6
Add brown sugar, green chiles, salsa verde, and a habanero pepper to the shredded pork.
7
Season with salt and pepper, then stir everything together well.
8
Continue cooking on low for another hour or until the flavors have fully absorbed.
