Sweet Raisin Biscuits
Ingredients
  • 2/3 cup raisins
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup cold butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 375 degrees F (or equivalently 190 degrees C).
2
Prepare a baking sheet by covering it with a non-stick, heat-resistant material called parchment paper.
3
At the same time, immerse raisins in water for 10 minutes; then drain and set them aside.
4
Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl using a whisk. Incorporate cold butter into the mixture with two utensils or a pastry blender until it reaches a rough, crumbly consistency. Gradually add milk to the mixture until it becomes moist and even; incorporate raisins as well. Transfer the dough onto a lightly dusted surface. Roll or press the dough into a round shape, approximately 3/4 to 1 inch thick.
5
Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces using a round, biscuit-shaped cutter; place them onto the prepared baking sheet. In a separate bowl, combine an egg and 1 tablespoon of water; brush this mixture onto each biscuit.
6
Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven until they turn golden brown, taking around 15 minutes.
