Ingredients
- 8 cups peeled, cored and chopped pears
- 1 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
- 8 cups white sugar
Instructions
1
Begin by adding the chopped pears to a large vessel, followed by pouring pineapple juice over them in order to inhibit browning. Next, incorporate sugar into the mixture and bring it to a rolling boil over medium-high heat. Ensure that you stir the contents periodically to prevent scorching. Once the pears have reached a full rolling boil, decrease the heat to medium and continue cooking until the mixture has achieved the desired color and consistency, similar to that of honey. The longer you continue cooking, the thicker the final product will be. Typically, this process takes 2 to 3 hours.

Subsequently, ladle the cooked mixture into hot, sterilized containers, filling them to a depth of approximately 1/4 inch from the top. Wipe the rims of these containers with a damp cloth, followed by securing them with lids and rings. Finally, subject the sealed jars to a boiling water bath for 10 minutes, or adhere to the recommended duration specified by your local agricultural extension service for your specific region.
