Sweet Orange Firecracker Shrimp
Ingredients
  • 24 jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1 cup tupelo honey
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
Instructions
1
First, rinse the shrimp thoroughly and place them in a bowl filled with cold water. Let them sit for a moment before setting them aside.
2
Next, combine cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a large container with a secure lid. Give the mixture a few vigorous shakes to ensure everything is well blended. Then, pour half of the shrimp into this container and cover it. Shake again to coat the shrimp evenly with the cornstarch mixture. Transfer the coated shrimp to a serving platter and repeat the process with the remaining shrimp.
3
Now, heat canola oil in a large skillet over medium heat until it reaches a hot and shimmering state, but not quite smoking. Remove any excess cornstarch from the shrimp before adding them to the pan in batches. Cook the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are opaque inside and nicely browned and crispy outside. Remove the cooked shrimp from the pan with paper towels to drain any excess oil, then proceed to cook the remaining shrimp.
4
After cleaning the skillet, pour in some honey and bring it to a boil over medium heat. Stir in some grated orange zest, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and cayenne pepper to create a delicious sauce. Serve the hot shrimp on a serving platter, drizzling them with the honey sauce to taste.
