Sweet Holiday Baked Ham
Ingredients
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup ginger ale
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 (10 ounce) jar maraschino cherries, halved
  • 1 (12 pound) fully-cooked, bone-in ham
  • large heat-resistant nylon oven bag (such as Reynolds® Oven Bags)
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) can pineapple slices in juice, drained
  • 1 box round wooden toothpicks
Instructions
1
To begin preparing the dish, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
2
Combine maple syrup, orange juice, ginger ale, brown sugar, and honey in a medium-sized bowl. Stir the mixture thoroughly until everything is well incorporated. Add juice from maraschino cherries to the bowl and mix again, then add half of the cherries.
3
Next, use a sharp knife to create a diamond-shaped pattern on the outer edge of the ham. The cuts should be about 1/4 inch deep, allowing the ham to absorb the juices during baking.
4
Place the ham in an oven bag and carefully pour the juice mixture over it, ensuring that all of the liquid stays inside the bag. Don't worry if it seems like there's too much juice - the ham will absorb it during baking.
5
Add pineapple slices on top of the ham and secure them with toothpicks to prevent them from falling off during baking. Place maraschino cherries in the center of the pineapple rings and secure them with toothpicks as well.
6
Tie the end of the oven bag closed using the provided ties, place it in a large roasting pan, and make a few small slits in the top of the bag to allow steam to escape.
7
Bake the ham for 2 hours in the preheated oven, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees Celsius). Be sure not to touch the bone when taking the temperature.
8
Once the ham is cooked, remove it from the oven bag and place it on a serving plate. Let it stand for 10 minutes before carving and serving.
