- 1 (4 pound) Boston butt pork shoulder roast
- 3 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Place thinly sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom of a slow cooker, creating a layer. Combine beef broth, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and black pepper in a bowl, stirring until well combined.

Place the pork roast on top of the onion mixture in the slow cooker, covering it with a lid.

Cook the pork roast on Low for 6 to 8 hours, allowing it to tenderize.
