Springfield Horseshoe Sandwich
Ingredients
  • 1 (9 ounce) bag frozen french fries
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 slices bread, toasted
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • hot sauce to taste
Instructions
1
First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Arrange the french fries in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, or until they turn golden brown, in the preheated oven.
2
Simultaneously, separate the ground beef into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty. Cook the patties in a large skillet over medium-high heat until they are cooked through, about 4 minutes per side.
3
In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and whisk in the flour. Continue to cook while stirring constantly for 4 minutes, allowing the raw flour flavor to dissipate. Gradually whisk in the half-and-half to prevent lumps from forming. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then remove it from the heat and stir in the cheese until melted. Season with salt, pepper, and hot sauce to taste.
4
Place two slices of toasted bread on top of two dinner plates. Place a hamburger patty on each slice of bread, followed by a serving of cooked french fries. Pour the cheese sauce over everything and serve immediately.
