Ingredients
- 1 cup vodka
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3/4 pound prosciutto, chopped
- 1 large clove garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 (28 ounce) can roma tomatoes, with juice
- 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions
1
In a small bowl, mix together vodka and red pepper flakes before setting it aside for 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
2
Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add slices of prosciutto, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and fresh basil leaves; sauté until the prosciutto is evenly browned and fragrant. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper over the mixture to bring out its flavors. Then, pour in the vodka mixture that you had set aside earlier and let it simmer for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to blend together.
3
Crush fresh Roma tomatoes and add them to the sauce along with a can of crushed tomato sauce and water. Let it simmer for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to develop and intensify. Stir in a generous dollop of heavy cream and cook for 2 more minutes, until the sauce has reached your desired consistency.
