Ingredients
- 2 cups cubed paneer (Indian cheese curd)
- 1/4 cup cornstarch, or as needed
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (1 inch) piece fresh ginger, grated
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 green chile peppers, halved
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons chile sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 2 tablespoons water, or as needed
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, or to taste
- 2 green onions, chopped
Instructions
1
Place the paneer in a bowl and cover it with an adequate amount of cornstarch, ensuring it is evenly coated; thoroughly combine the two.
2
Heat a generous amount of oil in a medium-sized skillet over medium heat; fry the paneer until it reaches a golden brown color, approximately 1 to 2 minutes on each side. Transfer the paneer to a paper towel-lined plate, reserving the oil in the skillet for future use.
3
Combine minced garlic and ginger in the hot oil; add diced onion, chopped green chile peppers, and sliced bell pepper. Cook and stir constantly until the vegetables are golden brown, taking around 5 minutes to achieve this.
4
Mix together soy sauce, chile sauce, tomato sauce, sugar, salt, and any remaining cornstarch in the onion mixture; if necessary, add water to achieve a suitable consistency. Add the paneer and cook, stirring frequently until the gravy thickens, approximately 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the skillet from heat and garnish with chopped cilantro and green onions.
