Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 onions, peeled and chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons dried thyme leaves
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 pound lean ground pork, veal or crumbled sausage
- 4 cups Heinz® Tomato Juice
- 1 (455 ml) bottle Heinz® Chili Sauce, Chunky with Sweet Peppers
- 1 (156 ml) can Heinz Tomato Paste
- 1 tablespoon Heinz Worcestershire Sauce
- 12 oven-ready lasagna noodles
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the optimal temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).
2
Heat a generous amount of oil in a large cooking vessel or Dutch oven set over medium heat. Introduce the onion, green pepper, garlic, and dried herbs into the pan; cook for a period of 5 to 10 minutes or until the vegetables become tender.
3
Add ground beef and pork, crumbling them into small pieces as you go. Cook the mixture over medium heat for approximately 5 minutes, allowing it to brown evenly on all sides.
4
Next, combine the tomato juice, chili sauce, tomato paste, and Worcestershire Sauce in the pan. Stir until the mixture comes to a boil, then reduce the heat to a lower setting and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
5
Divide the sauce into four equal parts, placing one-quarter of it in a 13- x 9-inch casserole dish. Add three servings of noodles on top, followed by another quarter of the sauce and one-third of the cheese. Repeat this layered process two more times, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.
6
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
7
Allow the dish to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
