Ingredients
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- 1 1/4 cups water
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound small shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 12 ounces spaghetti
- 8 green onions, minced
Instructions
1
Combine 1/2 cup of oil, tomato sauce, 1 1/4 cups of water, fresh basil leaves, a pinch of black pepper, a dash of crushed red pepper flakes, and a sprinkle of salt in a 4- to 6-quart cooking vessel over medium heat. As it begins to simmer, decrease the heat to a lower setting and stir occasionally.
2
Meanwhile, sprinkle seasoned shrimp with a pinch of salt, a dash of black pepper, and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes; mix them together thoroughly and set aside for later use.
3
Warm 2 tablespoons of oil in a medium-sized saucepan over high heat. Add sliced green bell pepper, red bell pepper, onion, and garlic to the pan. Cook and stir until they are slightly softened, taking around 3 to 5 minutes.
4
Add the vegetables to the tomato sauce and cook over medium heat for a short period of 3 minutes. Lower the heat to low and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, for a total of 20 to 25 minutes.
5
As the sauce is nearing completion, with around 7 to 10 minutes left until it's finished cooking, add the seasoned shrimp to the sauce; mix them well together. Increase the heat to medium and stir occasionally.
6
In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of cold water; add the mixture to the sauce when it has around 2 minutes left until completion and mix well together.
7
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta to the pot and cook until it reaches the desired level of doneness, taking around 8 to 10 minutes; drain and place it in a serving bowl.
8
Pour the sauce over the pasta and sprinkle with chopped green onions.
