Spicy Buffalo Shrimp
Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Creole-style seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined with tails attached
  • 4 cups oil for frying
  • 6 ounces hot pepper sauce
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
Instructions
1
Combine the dry ingredients, including flour, a blend of spices commonly used in Creole cuisine such as seasoning, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, onion powder, and black pepper, in a large resealable plastic bag.
2
Rinse the shrimp under cold running water and place them in the dry ingredient mixture. Seal the bag and vigorously shake until the shrimp are evenly coated with the flour mixture. Spread the coated shrimp on a baking sheet and refrigerate for 15 to 20 minutes. Reserve the flour mixture in the bag.
3
In the meantime, prepare the sauce by whisking together hot sauce, melted butter, minced garlic, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl; set it aside.
4
Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
5
Remove the shrimp from the refrigerator and shake them once more in the flour mixture; discard the used flour mixture.
6
Working in batches, fry the shrimp in hot oil until they become opaque and cooked through, 2 to 3 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried shrimp to a serving bowl and coat them with the prepared sauce.
