Spicy Beef and Dal Patties
Ingredients
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander, or more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin, or more to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground red chile pepper, or to taste
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup chana dal
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground red chile pepper, or to taste
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs, or as needed
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil, or as needed
Instructions
1
Heat a large cooking vessel over an intermediate heat setting; introduce ground beef into the pot. Combine minced garlic with ground ginger, coriander, cumin, turmeric, garam masala, a small amount of ground red pepper, and salt according to personal preference. Add water and the type of legume commonly referred to as dal; continue cooking until the meat is fully cooked and all liquid has evaporated, a period of 30 to 35 minutes.
2
Combine the beef and dal mixture using an electric mixing device in the cooking vessel. Introduce a small amount of chopped cilantro; mix until well combined. Form beef and dal mixture into rounded balls, approximately the size of walnuts; shape into flat patties with a smooth surface.
3
In a separate container, whisk together eggs, a small amount of chopped cilantro, ground red pepper, and salt according to personal preference. Prepare a shallow dish with breadcrumbs. Dip each patty into the egg mixture, then coat in breadcrumbs.
4
Heat a small amount of oil in a frying pan over an intermediate heat setting. Fry patties in a single layer until golden brown and crispy, 2 to 4 minutes on each side.
