Ingredients
- 8 whole green cardamom pods, lightly crushed to remove seeds, discarding pods
- 1/2 gallon whole milk
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, or amount desired
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Crush the cardamom seeds into a fine powder using a rolling pin, then add them to a large, deep pot.

Add milk, rice, and 1 cup of unsalted butter to the pot; cook over medium heat while constantly stirring for approximately 2.5 hours.

If the mixture starts to boil or overheat, reduce the heat as needed to prevent this from happening.

Stir in sugar and continue cooking until the mixture thickens, taking around 30 minutes longer.

Transfer the cooked rice mixture to a serving dish.

Add an additional 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter on top and let it melt completely before serving.

Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon over the dish for garnish.
