- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1 (3 inch) cinnamon stick
- 2 medium oranges, divided
- 10 whole cloves
- 1 (750 milliliter) bottle red wine

Collect all necessary components.

Combine water, sugar, and a cinnamon stick in a saucepan; heat it until boiling. Decrease the heat to a low setting.

Cut one orange in half and release its juice by squeezing it over the sugar mixture; insert 5 cloves into the outside of each orange peel and place them in the simmering liquid. Continue to cook over low heat until the mixture thickens, approximately 20-30 minutes.

Meanwhile, slice the remaining orange and set it aside for serving purposes.

Once the mixture has finished cooking, add wine to the liquid and heat until it reaches a steaming temperature without boiling, approximately 3-5 minutes. Discard the orange peels and cinnamon stick.

Pour the mixture into mugs and garnish with sliced oranges.
