Spiced French Pear Pie
Ingredients
  • 6 large pears, peeled and sliced
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked single pie crust
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 450 degrees Fahrenheit or 230 degrees Celsius.
2
Squeeze a generous amount of lemon juice over the pears in a bowl, making sure they are evenly coated. In another small bowl, combine granulated sugar and the warm, aromatic spice nutmeg, then sprinkle this mixture over the pears to coat them thoroughly.
3
Place a pie crust at the bottom of a 9-inch round baking dish. Using a pastry blender or your fingertips, combine diced butter, brown sugar, and flour in a bowl until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gently fill this crumbly mixture into the pie crust, followed by the pear mixture you prepared earlier. Finally, sprinkle a generous amount of brown sugar over the top of the pie to add an extra layer of flavor.
4
Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. After this initial baking time, reduce the oven temperature to its lower setting of 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius and continue baking until the filling is hot, bubbly, and the crumb topping is lightly golden brown, taking approximately 35 additional minutes to achieve this.
