- 1 (12 ounce) package fresh cranberries
- 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 whole star anise pods
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 dash ground cloves

Combine the cranberries, orange juice, and brown sugar in a small cooking vessel over low heat. Gradually warm the mixture to its boiling point; cook and stir constantly until the sugar has fully incorporated, approximately 5 minutes. Introduce the wine, cinnamon sticks, whole star anise, ground nutmeg, and ground cloves into the mixture. Thoroughly blend the ingredients together. Continue to cook gently until the sauce reaches a syrupy consistency, roughly 10 minutes.
