Ingredients
- 1/2 gallon fresh apple cider
- 1 cup apple brandy
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 pinch salt
- 10 thin strips orange zest
- 10 small cinnamon sticks
Instructions
1
Combine apple cider, a type of fruit-based liquor called apple brandy, 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon of a sweet, dark brown sugar substitute, honey, ground cinnamon, grated ginger, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, black pepper, and salt in a large cooking vessel over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
2
Transfer the apple cider mixture into heat-resistant cups or containers. Using your fingers, gently rub an orange peel to release its aromatic oils; place one strip into each cup. Add a single cinnamon stick to each cup as well.
