Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 cup cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 (5 pound) boneless pork shoulder, trimmed
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 (18 ounce) bottle barbeque sauce
Instructions
1
Mix together water and vinegar in a slow cooker set to Low
2
Apply a generous amount of oil all over the surface of the pork shoulder, allowing it to sit for 5 minutes and come to room temperature
3
In a separate bowl, combine the brown sugar, seasoned salt, black pepper, cumin, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cinnamon to create a unique blend; spread this mixture evenly over the entire surface of the pork shoulder. Place the pork shoulder into the slow cooker, ensuring it's fully coated with the spice mixture
4
Cover the slow cooker and cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours, allowing the flavors to meld together
5
Once cooked, remove the pork shoulder from the slow cooker and transfer it to a work surface. Allow it to rest for 10 minutes, giving the juices time to redistribute
6
Discard the cooking liquid from the slow cooker, then place the pork shoulder back into the slow cooker
7
Using two forks, shred the pork shoulder into tender, bite-sized pieces. Finally, stir in a rich barbecue sauce to add an extra layer of flavor
