Combine the water, ham hock, and lard in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add a generous amount of seasoning salt, salt, and pepper to give it a savory flavor. Sprinkle some garlic powder and onion powder into the mixture for an aromatic twist. Bring the liquid to a rolling boil, then gradually decrease the heat to a low simmer and carefully add green beans. Allow them to cook undisturbed for approximately 2 hours, or until they reach your desired level of tenderness.
