Southern Style Biscuits
Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 400 degrees Fahrenheit or 200 degrees Celsius.
2
In a large mixing container, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar. Use a pastry blender or your fingertips to work in 1/2 cup of cold butter until the mixture has a rough, crumbly texture.
3
Mix in 1/2 cup of buttermilk until the dough comes together. Turn the mixture out onto a lightly dusted surface, and use your hands to knead it for 2 minutes.
4
Transfer the dough to an ungreased baking sheet, shape it into a 6x6 inch square, and cut it into 12 equal-sized sections without separating them.
5
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center of one of the squares comes out clean.
6
Separate the biscuits and serve them immediately, hot from the oven.
