Combine pecans, granulated sugar, and molasses in the saucepan over medium heat; add milk, butter, and vanilla to create a mixture. Allow the mixture to reach boiling point without stirring once it starts boiling.

Heat the mixture to 240 degrees F (115 degrees C) or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms a soft ball that flattens when removed from water and placed on a flat surface.
