- 2 cups chopped cooked ham
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 pinch garlic powder
- 2 onions, diced
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can whole tomatoes

Fill an 8 quart container with black-eyed peas, leaving about half of the container empty.

Add water to the pot until it is 75% full, making sure not to overflow. Combine diced ham and onions in the pot, then sprinkle salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.

Mash tomatoes using a blender or food processor until they are completely broken down, releasing their juices.

Add the blended tomatoes to the pot with the other ingredients.

Bring all the ingredients together in a rolling boil, then cover the container and let it cook on low heat for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the black-eyed peas are tender.
