Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup canola oil
- 1 large egg
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 cups canola oil for frying
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
Instructions
1
Prepare the dough mixture: Combine flour, canola oil, egg, sugar, baking powder, and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Gradually incorporate warm water while mixing on low speed until a smooth, pliable dough forms, approximately 4 to 5 minutes. Allow the dough to relax for 30 minutes.
2
Transfer the dough to a clean, flat surface. Divide the dough into roughly thirty equal pieces. Use a fork to shape each piece into a curved, cylindrical form.
3
Heat 2 cups of oil in a deep frying vessel or large saucepan over medium heat. Fry the dough shapes, one batch at a time, in the hot oil while stirring slowly until they turn golden brown, taking 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the fried dough shapes from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
4
Create a sweet syrup: Combine sugar, water, and cardamom in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer until the sugar dissolves completely, adding 1 to 2 minutes more. Remove the syrup from heat.
5
Gently coat the fried dough shapes with the sweet syrup, ensuring they are evenly covered. Transfer the coated dough shapes to a plate and allow them to cool completely.
