Ingredients
- 2 pounds dried pinto beans
- 8 cups water, or more if needed
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 smoked turkey leg
- 1/3 cup olive oil
Instructions
1
Rinse and sort the beans; place them in a spacious container. Submerge the beans in cold water; let them sit for 6 to 8 hours.
2
Drain and wash the beans; transfer them to a slow cooker. Fill the slow cooker with 8 cups of water and add some chopped onion, garlic powder, bay leaves, black pepper, and onion powder for flavor. Place a turkey leg into the slow cooker; cover it with a lid.
3
Cook on the Low setting for 6 hours. Periodically stir in some olive oil and add more water if the beans start to dry out; continue cooking until they become extremely tender, requiring an additional 2 hours.
