Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 1 (4 pound) pork shoulder roast
- 1 cup barbeque sauce
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 extra large onion, chopped
- 2 large cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme
- 8 hamburger buns, split
- 2 tablespoons butter, or as needed
Instructions
1
Start by filling a slow cooker with vegetable oil, then carefully place the pork roast inside. Next, pour in the barbeque sauce, vinegar, and chicken broth to create a rich mixture.
2
Add brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, onion, garlic, and thyme to the slow cooker. Mix everything together thoroughly.
3
Cover the slow cooker and cook on Low for 10 to 12 hours or High for 5 to 6 hours until the pork becomes tender and falls apart easily.
4
Once cooked, carefully remove the pork roast from the slow cooker. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.
5
Return the shredded pork back into the slow cooker and stir it with the remaining juices to create a deliciously combined mixture.
6
Now, prepare the hamburger buns by spreading butter on both halves of them.
7
Heat a skillet over medium heat and toast the buns, with their buttered sides facing down.
8
Spoon the pulled pork into the toasted hamburger buns, creating a mouth-watering sandwich.
