Slow Cooker Smoky Baked Beans
Ingredients
  • 1 pound mild pork sausage
  • 1 (15 ounce) can wax beans, drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can cut green beans, drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can lima beans, drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained
  • 1/2 (28 ounce) can barbeque baked beans, with liquid
  • 1 (15 ounce) can chili beans, with liquid
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup barbeque sauce
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seed

Begin by heating a skillet over medium heat and add the sausage, allowing it to cook until it's uniformly browned. Remove excess grease from the skillet and transfer the cooked sausage to a slow cooker.

Next, combine the sausage with a variety of beans in the slow cooker - wax beans, green beans, lima beans, and black beans. Add baked beans that have been rehydrated in liquid to the mix, as well as chili beans that have also been rehydrated.

Add a blend of spices and flavorings to the slow cooker, including tomato paste, brown sugar, barbeque sauce, a chopped green bell pepper, an onion, and fennel seed.

Finally, cover the slow cooker and cook on a low setting for at least 5 hours.
