Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon pork rub seasoning, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
- 1 (3 pound) pork loin roast
- 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into bite-size pieces
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons butter
- salt and ground black pepper to taste

Combine the pork rub seasoning and Chinese five-spice powder in a compact container.

Rub the resulting blend evenly across the surface of the pork roast.

Position sweet potatoes at the base of a slow cooker, followed by an addition of brown sugar and melted butter.

Carefully position the pork roast on top, sprinkling a pinch of salt and pepper over its surface.

Allow the roast to cook slowly over a prolonged period, 6 to 7 hours on Low setting.

Verify that the roast has reached a satisfactory level of tenderness by inserting an instant-read thermometer into its center; it should register at least 145 degrees F (63 degrees C).
